Start Marriage Records Search Using The Internet

The Florida Office of Vital Statistics is the office in-charge of keeping FL Marriage Records. Starting on June 6, 1927, the office has become the official central repository of the state's marriage and divorce documents. Documents that were filed prior to June 6, 1927 are kept at the county Clerk of Courts that made them official.

Any member of the general public is given the right to access marriage records because they are deemed as public records. To begin a search, secure the appropriate request form and supply all necessary pieces of information. Provide the full name of either the husband or the wife, date of the marriage, and where it took place. Include all other information that you know of the record to have a better chance of locating the exact record that you requested for. Also do not forget to leave your full name, address and contact number. You can also place a request for the records of other individuals. However, you will only be provided with limited information because the right to privacy of the records' owner should also be respected.

There is a fee of $5 per copy of the record and $4 for succeeding copies. Fees can be paid through a certified check or money order. Normally, it takes to three weeks to complete a search process. If you need them sooner, you can indicate that you want to a rush service for an additional fee. All fees are non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the search. If no record is found, you will be given a certificate that indicates "not found."

A marriage license is necessary for a marriage to become legal. The legal age to be married in Florida is 18 years old, and if the husband-to-be or the wife-to-be has not reached that age yet, the approval of the underage individual will be required. Individuals that have been married before will be required to present their official divorce file. On the day of the license application, the couple should both be present. A license has a validity period of 90 days. If a marriage is not carried out within that period, the license will expire and the couple will have to apply for another one.

Your attorney, your husband or wife, and authorized personnel can also get your documents. If the document you want to acquire is not your own, you will only be given a few details about it, excluding those that are deemed as confidential.
