The Big Picture Of American Political Commentary

By Essie Osborn

Most European countries play a pivotal role in world politics. This is an american political commentary of how it watches over the political activities of most countries, to ensure a peaceful and tranquil world. However, at some instances they are taken wrongly when it is felt that they enter into the bedroom affairs of other nations. Still it is encouraging to see how the US normally intervenes especially in issues of war and security.

When the Russian Forces violated the territorial rules by occupying Crimea which is an Ukrainian territory, US president, Barack Obama was not pleased and so it as an offensive act whereby the sovereignty of Ukraine was violated by Russia. This inflected him to making a call to the Russian President, Vladimir Putin on first March which lasted for ninety minutes. They however seemed to disagree. This is because Vladimir Putin did not see anything wrong with th operation that his army was taking.

The bone of contention arose on the need for Russia to withdraw its forces from Crimea, which is entirely a territory of Ukraine. The conflict was fore grounded by a proclamation from The White House that threatened to issue a statement of withdrawal from any international function to be held in Ukraine. This could imply the failure of America to participate in the summit of the group of eight that was to be held in the Russian city of Sochi.

This is just one example where the United States has intervened to safeguard international justice. Their wings have spread even into Africa where a country like Uganda risked political sanctions for infringing on gay rights. They argued that gay relationships were non African and being a Western affair, its practice should be limited to the West.

During his highly publicized visit to Africa, Obama refused to pass through Kenya. Even though this is believed to be his original homeland, he was not ready to cooperate with a country that was marred with corruption and impunity. To some extent, that decision forced Kenya to change her International Cooperation policies. It finally downed on them that the fight against corruption had to be taken more seriously.

The Rome statute was established to check on the issues of crime against humanity. Even though the US is not a member, it has always offered immense support and cooperation. For instance, the attempt of the Kenyan president and his deputy to withdraw their cases was discussed by the international community, and The United States was instrumental in calling for their cooperation with the court. They had to attend the court proceedings until such a time when their cases will be over.

Even though it has done most things right, there are some instances when The US really rubs others the wrong way. They normally seem to give no room for negotiations. It is either their way or never. This results into rebellion and outcry from the affected countries. The situation can become better is they accepted to be wrong at some point and allow solutions from other quarters.

It is therefore challenging for The United states. They are being watched and their proclamations are deeply analyzed. If they fail to participate they are faulted and if they do the faults are threefold. The only solution is therefore not to keep silent. Let them contribute avidly but approach political issues with moderation.
