Getting Over Your Post Breakup Depression

By Karli Ralston

Do you find yourself sitting around your house sad and upset about your breakup? You wish that you could simply snap out of it but your heart is broken. All you can think about is your ex. All you want is to hear their voice, see their smile and know that they love you again.

Your sad mood and depression is actually a huge stumbling block when it comes to reuniting with your ex. You might think that your ex would be touched and humbled if they knew how upset and sad you were without them but the opposite is true. People tend to avoid others who are depressed or emotionally upset. Even though it is completely understandable that you might be a little sad in the wake of your breakup, it is far too easy to let this emotion dominate your mood. Depression is a slippery slope and one that is very difficult to avoid once you allow it to take hold of you. If you have a desire to get back together with your ex then you should work to avoid being depressed and focus on improving your mood.

One sure way to change your mood and trick yourself into being happy is to laugh. While you might say that you have nothing to laugh about, finding something external to yourself to laugh at is possible. Going to a local comedy club or watching some hilarious movies are two great ways to instantly change your mood and start laughing again. If you're not ready to go out in public quite yet, watching some of your favorite comedies at home with some of your favorite foods to provide some added comfort might be in order. Anything that makes you laugh is good medicine for you after your breakup and you will find that you will begin to feel better about life very quickly.

Exercising does great things for your body and your attitude also. Whether you work out regularly or not, going for a walk or a run is a good way to get your heart pumping. Your body will release a flood of chemicals that will improve your mood and you'll feel better about yourself and your situation. If nothing else, you will improve your physique and your ex will notice this when you see them again if you continue with a good exercise regimen.

Another good thing that you can do for yourself to help improve your overall mood is to make an effort to improve your self-esteem. All the above activities will improve your confidence in general but a focused effort to feel better about yourself might be in order also. Reading books on psychology and understanding yourself a little better can improve your self-confidence. Understanding that you're not perfect but that you are unique and that you have many redeeming qualities will make you feel better about your future and your life. All of us have a good side and a bad side. It's time for you to start focusing on the good things about yourself and start loving yourself. Once you begin to see yourself in a more positive light, your ex will be more likely to see those wonderful things about you also.

A breakup can be a devastating event in your life. It's not something that most people take lightly. When we are rejected by someone that we truly love it can have a debilitating effect on our life. Of course, we know that things will change and we will heal but many of us waste far too much time being sad and lonely and prolong the amount of time it will take to get our lives together and become attractive to our ex again. Yes, by shortening the amount of time you grieve over your breakup, you can shorten the amount of time it is going to take to get back together with the one you love. Showing your ex that you're strong, self-confident and that you have something to offer in life is an important part of being attractive to them. Remember that people like to be around positive, optimistic people and they are less likely to be attracted to depressed, sad people.
