Illinois Public Marriage Records

IL marriage records or the marriage certificates that the state of Illinois generates are among the most accessed documents of the state. The Freedom of Information Act has mandated the local government of the state to allow its local residents to access the file whenever it is needed.

The residents of Illinois request for copies of marriage records to use it in several ways. It is one of the resources when conducting genealogy research. It has information that is needed in order to update the history tree of a family. When dealing with any government transactions, proof of identification may be needed. Marriage records can be used as a document to prove one's status and identity. When one need to check the marital status of a certain individual, one of the documents or records being checked are the marriage certificates. This is usually done by people who are in the dating stage to make sure that they won't encounter problems when they get married themselves.

A marriage certificate issued in the state of Illinois would contain details about the marriage of a couple. One would know the complete names of the bride and the groom. Other important details that can be found on the file include the date and the place where the marriage took place. Some personal information of the couple can also be found on the certificate along with the names of the parents and the witnesses.

Records since January 1962 are the only files that the state of Illinois releases. One has to pay $5 in order to process the request. One should present the basic information of the marriage record that is being requested. It is also a must to provide the contact details of the one who requested the document. This is because the certificate is only given to the couple themselves and their immediate families. Once the guidelines are followed, one can expect to get the record after a maximum of 10 working days if there are no delays.

The Department of Health Office in Illinois is where the public documents of the state are being kept and managed. This includes the marriage records of the state. However, the said office cannot give copies of the said file because they only assist by verifying the information needed to conduct the search. The document can only be requested at the office of the county clerk where the marriage took place and was registered. It is recommended to send a mail order in order to have the request prioritized.

By searching for the record online, time and energy can be saved since the requests can be done even without leaving home and the results are displayed in just seconds.
