Advice On Choosing Cemeteries In NJ

By Eloise Hewitt

It is important to be thoroughly prepared after a loved dies because this can alleviate the stress associated with funerals. One of the important things you should know is how to select a suitable cemetery if your loved one will be buried in cemetery. The first thing to consider when choosing cemeteries in NJ is their location. Most people prefer being buried in the place where they grew up or lived. Therefore, consider where your loved one may have wished to be buried.

Another thing to consider is whether a cemetery is in close proximity to immediate family members. This is important because family members often visit the place where their relative was buried. After this, you should search for an appropriate plot. Bear in mind that certain cemeteries such as those with religious affiliations and Veteran memorials may impose restrictions on the people who can be buried in them.

If you find a suitable cemetery, make sure that you inspect the available plots and grounds. When touring a cemetery, find out if the grounds are maintained well. It is wise to check the most removed or outermost boundaries to see if they are maintained well. If they are, this may be an indicator that the rest of the cemetery is also well maintained.

It is also important to speak with caretakers of a cemetery. The demeanor of the people who work at a cemetery usually reflect the way they maintain the grounds. Inquire if the caretakers know about the steps you need to take when you want to bury a person in the cemetery and if they can offer the information you need freely.

You should also consider the differences in price of various plots. Generally, burial site that have scenic views or pleasant surroundings cost more. Plots that lack scenic views are less costly and you can therefore opt for them to save money. If you are sure that some of your relatives wish to be buried close to each other, you may opt to buy a number of plots at once.

Asking to see an outline of the costs associated with a burial site is essential because this can help you avoid paying hidden fees. The total cost of a plot may include an initial down payment, opening fees, closing fees and ongoing maintenance fees. It is also wise to ask about what may happen if you choose not to buy a plot after making a down payment. You may be allowed to sell to another person or get a refund but you may have to pay some charges.

Some cemeteries offer additional services that are convenient in the future. This may include plot care and maintenance, coordinating graveside funerals and offering flowers. These services can help eliminate some responsibilities and details after the death of your relative. You can choose from four main types of cemeteries namely, public, religious, municipal and veterans or national cemeteries.

As you choose a cemetery, consider if there are other things that are important to you. This includes the religious requirements that the cemetery may be unable to meet, the sizes and types of headstones or other grave markers the cemetery allows to be placed on graves. When choosing a cemetery, it is also wise to ask your friends and family for recommendations about good cemeteries in this state.
