Will The Antichrist Be A Muslim

By Eliza Mendoza

The debate about judgment day only leaves human kind with more questions than answers. A common dilemma for Christians is, will the antichrist be a Muslim. Christianity and Islam have scripture that give indication to a possible yet controversial answer. This is a puzzle whose answer can only be delivered by time. It is theological and only time is likely to provide an answer. However, there are writings that support the notion for and against the motion.

One may begin by evaluating scriptures that point at the return of a prophet. In Islam, it is believed that a twelfth imam disappeared at a tender age into a cave. This was to escape persecution that was happening at the time. The Shiites believe that one day, this twelfth Imam shall return just before the day of final judgment.

In the bible, Revelations narrates about a leader who shall conquer and rule the world before judgment day. This information is contained in verse four of the thirteenth chapter of Revelations. The ruler is to ride to power by promising peace to Israel. The peace will be said to last seven years, but the deal shall collapse before the end of that period.

The broken treaty shall signal to Christians that the beast is reigning. It is one of the signs given by early prophets. With the collapse of the peace deal, the king shall seize absolute power and dictate over nations. He will regard himself as God over nations. This tyrannical king before the second coming is said to coincide with the return of the twelfth imam as given in the Quran.

In the old testament, the narration by Daniel brings about confusion into the debate. He indicates that four kings shall rise before rapture occurs. The last of these four kings is to give clear indications that he is the prophesied beast. He will claim supernatural powers, rule by intrigues and be full of deceit. These are the traits to be used by Christians to know that the final days have arrived.

A few theories exonerate Muslims from being the sources of the beast. Islam is predominantly an Arab religion, yet the beast will have come from a revived Roman empire. The conflicts between Muslims and Israel make it unlikely for a truce to be signed between these two institutions. The seven year peace with Israel is therefore unlikely if the beast were to come from Islam.

The origin and nature of this antichrist remains speculative. The information also indicates that the king is to deliver peace to the Middle East region. The only possibility in this line would be a person of mixed decent. Muslims would accept him as their twelfth imam while Jews would see him as their king too.

Until we are able to answer the question, will the antichrist be a Muslim, Christians can only exercise care when dealing with any leader. The bible cautions Christians not to believe every spirit that comes. They are required to test such spirits in order to identify if they come from the father. Such spirits can only be believed if they confess that Christ is the Lord.
