Talking Nicely With Catholic Grandparents

By Francis Riggs

As the main person involved in all of these things, you would really have to pay attention to what you are saying and doing. That is the main reason why this article is here. If you would use it to your advantage, then you would not have anything to worry about during family meetings.

For starters, you would have to be on the offensive side as much as possible. Keep in mind that it is not your fault that you have Catholic grandparents. You would just have to try to be on their good side until the day is over. If you would do that, then all of you would have a good time when you least expect it.

Relax since you have not been invited to be criticized. Yes, you are different from the person that you once where but then, all of you still belong to the same family. If you will just relax and learn to appreciate the presence of these people, then enjoying your free day will come naturally and that is the right situation to be in.

Allow religion to be one of your minor topics. Never forget that this thing can be inevitable as the wave in the sea. If you will not welcome it with open arms, then you are once again the odd one out. This is your family and that is something that you should be thankful for while you are still living in this world.

Lower the expectations that you have. If you would do that, then you would be able to control your emotions. Keep in mind that you cannot expect these people to shut up. They would talk whenever they please and you would just have to respect that. Besides, you would not be seeing these people for the rest of your life.

This is a war that you have no way of winning. Be reminded that you will be arguing with people who are more knowledgeable with life compared to you. If you will push through with what you really desire to say, then you will only be seen as a very disrespectful child. That is not something that you deserve.

Stay away from the liquor bar and a debate. Yes, you have your own religion but that does not mean that you are more righteous than those individuals who do not belong to the same group of yours. So, keep your humility intact and avoid alcohol for you not to say things that you will be regretting for the rest of your life.

Know where you stand when things go wrong. If you are already being humiliated in front of a lot of people for the choices that you have made in your life, then defend yourself. That is the only way that you would be able to keep your dignity intact.

Overall, find the safe zone that you can step on. If you think that the best way for you to get out of this is to stay quiet all day long, then so be it. Be humble.
