Non Religious Wedding Officiants And Custom Ceremonies

By Anna Bennett

When it comes to getting married, individuals often have a number of choices. Two of the most important of which are selecting the best officiant and venue for the event. For, depending on whether individuals are looking for religious or non religious wedding officiants or venues, these are the two most important aspects of a successful wedding.

One thing which is a common theme at all these events is that of uniting individuals whom desire to make a commitment. Whether the commitment be for a year and a day in a hand-fasting ceremony, or those whom want to make a State sanctioned lifetime commitment, it can often be difficult to find the right venue for this type of event.

Ceremonies whether traditional or otherwise are a celebration of love, honor, respect and trust between those tying the knot, or ribbon in the case of a hand-fasting. In some cases, there may be family traditions and rituals which the individuals will perform during the service, especially in traditional ones. Whereas, others may desire to create new and unique rituals specific to interests shared by the couple.

Traditional weddings, such as those shown on television or seen in Bride magazine can often be some of the most beautiful events in the world. Whereas, non traditional ceremonies are often just as beautiful and at times more heart-warming than traditional ones. For, when two individuals can come together to plan, organize and host a successful wedding whether being married in a temple, synagogue, church, chapel, outdoor garden or other location, sharing heartfelt vows in a beautiful setting can often move family and friends to tears.

One of the first and most important aspects of planning this type of event, especially when operating outside the realm of religion is to pick the right officiant. When it comes to non-religious officiants, options often include going to a Justice of the Peace or choosing a minister from an organization such as the Universal Life Church. For, as long as allowed by the State and ordained, these individuals can officiate weddings and memorials as indicated by the laws of the organization through which the individual was ordained.

When desiring a friend or family member to officiate the ceremony, it can often be possible for the individual to become ordained online in minutes. For, the Universal Life Church and similar organizations now offer instant ordination in which an individual can then provide services such as weddings, memorials and spiritual counseling. While this is the case, it is important that the individual have the knowledge and skills to perform such ceremonies.

When planning to host a destination or themed wedding, it is important to assure all details are in place well ahead of the ceremony. For, it can often take extra time to locate an officiant, custom order specialized attire or find an appropriate venue. As such, the earlier in the process these items are finalized, the easier it will be to plan and organize other aspects of the event.

It is also important to book the location as early in the process as possible. For, there can often be a two to three year wait for some of the most popular sites, especially those related to a specific theme. Regardless of theme or venue, the most important thing is that the couple are in agreement and happy with the choice of officiant and venue.
