Good Read On Speed Dating Los Angeles

By Aimee Schwartz

Speed dating is a formalized but not common process which is aimed at making people meet a large number of new people and matching them at the end. It has its origins in the Jewish culture where it was a way of single people meeting and marrying. Some people feel that this practice has some obvious advantages compared to other meeting places such as bars. Speed dating Los Angeles events are therefore becoming more popular in various countries.

In addition, they are good especially for those that are single as all the participants have the same goal in mind and no one gets to feel out of place. It is time efficient as the participants in this event are grouped into compatible age ranges and introductions are eliminated so as to ease the engagement process and more so save time. Unlike in other meeting places, people will have ample time to communicate with ease.

Matching is mostly done after the event and the pressure of rejecting or selecting someone in their presence is greatly reduced. The time limit in the conversations is there to ensure that no one gets stuck with an annoying person for too long. Additionally, a couple that identifies their compatibility earlier on in the event can sit together throughout until the end.

On the other hand, the feedback concerning the matches is delayed and the participants must wait for a few days to get it. Most speed dating events do their matching at random and the participants will have a chance to meet different types of people that they might not normally meet in a club. This eliminates the non-verbal cues that people use in bars to select each other before talking.

Advance registration is a requisite for both male and female participants. Depending on the organization that is carrying out the event, the participants are rotated to short dates that last from three to eight minutes. To signal the end of each session, the organizer rings a bell or a blows a whistle for another one to start.

At the end of it all, all participants are expected to submit a list of the people they would like their contact information to be given out to the organizer. They will carry out the match making process and forward the contact information to the concerned. The exchange of this information is however restricted to avoid having to reject a suitor to their face.

Requirements of speed dating usually vary with the organizers with many events targeting specific communities such as the LGBT people, polyamorists and Christians. Graduate student events are the most common because young single people are eager to meet their life partners and settle down. They mainly take place in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

According to a certain study, first impressions greatly count as many participants have been seen to make a decision regarding the choice of a partner within seconds of their meeting. Furthermore, social matters such as lifestyle, religion and previous marriages do not affect the meeting as anticipated. Online speed dating is another option despite the aspect of no actual meeting taking place.
