A Few Reasons To Join The Military

In a day and age which is sadly marked by increased violence on an international level, there are quite a few people who may question what some good and valid reasons to join the military are. A service man or woman puts himself or herself at risk by doing so and can potentially be far apart from relatives and friends for extended periods. Many in the military serve more than one tour, and this can be rather stressful for families to deal with. The different reasons include one's desire to show love of country, to get relevant work experience, to fund a college education, to defend his or her country after it has been attacked, to use one's work background, and to be in a stable environment. These will all be examined more going forward.

One can join the armed forces to display his or her love of country. It is the ultimate sacrifice that a person can make, as it can sadly result in service member's death. This is especially the case when a country is not at peace and has been attacked either domestically or abroad. This is oftentimes coupled with other reasons for one's joining the military.

Obtaining work experience of value is another reason given. Those who go into the private or public sector after serving in the military have a number of valuable skills to share, including a disciplined work ethic as well as specific skills that are suited to certain professions. Many a former service member has went into law enforcement, teaching, engineering, mechanics, and a number of other venerable professions.

As is even more so the case today with higher education costing as much as it does, there are countless young individuals who sign on with the armed forces in the hopes of obtaining some help with their college tuition. The military does help defray the costs of an education in different instances, which is very helpful to many a middle class family. One does need to serve for a set period of time in order to obtain this benefit however.

After one's country has been attacked, he or she may wish to almost immediately join the armed forces with the intent of defending his or her nation. This call to action has been seen in recent times in various country given the current instability in the world.

Many a person with a medical or other background has made the decision to use his or her skill set in a military setting. These individuals include many medical doctors, dentists, and nurses.

The military also tends to offer a disciplined and stable environment for at risk youths. Those young people living in areas which are not stable and safe for years have decided to join the armed forces to both proudly serve their country while at the same time be part of a disciplined environment that would also provide them with educational advancement.

There are many reasons to join the military. These include being patriotic, joining for educational opportunities, and more. Whatever the reason, those joining are making the ultimate sacrifices for their country.
