Be The Soup Kitchen Volunteer New Hampshire Homeless Need

By Kimberly Stewart

Your life has been good, and you want to give back to the world. You are seeking a humble volunteer position where you can help those less fortunate. A soup kitchen volunteer New Hampshire shelters and churches can use will provide services that are truly needed to local people who are homeless and destitute. This would be the perfect place for an individual to begin a philanthropic life of service.

Working in this type of position will assist in exposing you to so many types of people that you are not familiar with. You will be helping runaway children and teens, veterans who cannot cope, single mothers of multiple children, the old and infirm, and especially adults who just cannot seem to pull their lives together. Your first instinct may be to look at them with pity and judgment, but after you get to know these individuals and their unique problems, you will find yourself filled with empathy and compassion.

Working with these people in this type of giving environment will help you to be able to step directly into their shoes and see things from their perspective. They are without hope for the future, but even in your lowly position on the soup line, you can make a difference.

Empathy is the act of understanding another individual. Instead of being critical and condescending, an empathetic person will fully feel the same feelings that these unfortunate individuals do. Their hearts will go out to those who need help and care, not heartless criticizing and condemnation. Working in a soup kitchen and making polite but authentic conversation with the diners will engage them and make them feel like they are real people too.

Another benefit of working in this environment is self-fulfillment. You will feel that you are actually making a difference in their lives, even if it is just by passing out food and beverages. You will expand your horizons and grow and learn as an individual. There are so many ways this experience will help you give back in the future.

Gratitude will come naturally to you after you compare your life to those of the people you are aiding. After volunteering in centers such as these will give you a new and refreshing perspective on life in general. You will feel extremely grateful for all that you have.

You could use this volunteer work to find new and interesting job opportunities. If you do any of the actual cooking, you will be able to use this skill to work in a restaurant kitchen. If you serve, you can chalk this experience up to waiting tables. Volunteer work also looks fantastic on an application or resume' because it shows that you are willing to go the extra mile even when you don't get paid for it.

As is clearly evident, this type of work will assist you in various ways. You will grow so much as a person and become aware of the many needs of others. The skills you acquire will be able to be utilized in other facets of your life. You will never, ever be the same and will always seek out the ways and means necessary to help those who need assistance.
