The NBA All Star Weekend Schedule 2017 Is Here

By Michael Wagner

Sporting events are a great way that for friends and families to spend time together while enjoying something really exciting. Though individual games are fun, if you want to see all your favorites, an event like the NBA All-Star Game is what you should go for. With the All Star Weekend Schedule 2017 released, you can start planning for it now.

The events will be held over three days at the Time Warner Cable Arena. This is the place where the Charlotte Hornets play, so it is already set up to give fans the ultimate in great basketball action. This is the first time that Charlotte has played host to the NBA All Star Game in over 25 years. In fact, 1991 was the last time that the weekend of fun was held there.

To kick off the weekend of events, the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge will be held in the evening on Friday, February 17. This game is a lot of fun because it takes the best rookies and sophomores born in the United States and faces them off against their foreign-born counterparts. Come for the national pride and stay for the fun.

The next day, on Saturday, February 18, 2017, the State Farm All-Star Saturday Night events are held. There are quite a few things going on this day, so fans can expect an entire day of fun, competition and team pride. One of the best is the Degree Shooting Stars game, which brings together legends of both the NBA and WNBA in a fun competition.

The Shoot Stars game is not the only thing on the docket that day. There is the Slam Dunk Contest, where young stars defy gravity to try and be the next Michael Jordan. There is also the Three-Point Competition, where competitors are much further away from the basket when they score, but no less impressive. In addition, Taco Bell sponsors a Skills Challenge, which is a lot like an obstacle course, only for guards and point guards to show off ball handling skills and win a coveted trophy.

Of course, the finale is the All-Star Game itself, which takes the best players from the Eastern Conference and lets them try to beat the best from the Western Conference. There are living legends, superstars in training and so much more. There is also a concert sponsored by Sprint that day to further entertain. All of this is on February 18, a Sunday.

The NBA has their own Developmental League, called the D-League for short, that allows players to get experience before taking the leap into the NBA. There are several D-League events held across the city over the three days, including a Dream Factory and their very own All-Star Game, though they are not held in the same arena as the other events.

Parties are a part of the fun, but the NBA only has a few official ones, usually. That does not stop other people across the city from throwing their own unofficial ones. If you wish to watch from home, inviting friends and family over is a fun way to have your own party while enjoying the spectacle and stars that are a part of this fun annual NBA showcase.
