Why So Many Critics Want The HOPCC Exposed

By Linda Cantrell

The history of the world is riddled with violence directly related to religious issues or differences. Modern society is more tolerant and religious freedom is advocated in most parts of the world. Yet there remain many churches and sects that seem to attract severe criticism and sanction. Those that want the HOPCC exposed, for example, are vehement in their efforts to discredit the church.

Critics of the House of Prayer Christian Church are very serious about the complaints about the church. They have special Facebook and Twitter sites to voice and publish their criticism and there are several websites dedicated to exposing the alleged wrongs and travesties of the church. From reading the many criticisms and complaints it is clear that many of those critics were one time members of the House of Prayer.

Many critics say that the church lie to prospective members. They say that church officials promise prospective members that the church will look after both their spiritual and physical needs. Critics say that the teachings of the church are not based upon the true gospel but that they are rather twisted versions of biblical text that are used out of context to keep members in line.

Critics say that as soon as they join the church, pressure is applied to coerce them in donating their worldly assets to the church. Some claim that they even had to donate their homes and others say they were forced to resign their everyday jobs. Apparently, the church policy is that the belongings of one member are the belongings of all.

Critics are also very vocal about the fact that the church seems to target young people. Some parents allege that their children have been turned against their own families. They say that the House of Prayer convinces young members that they need to shun their families and accept the church as their only family if they wish to attain salvation. Some parents even say that their children exhibits disturbing behavioural traits.

The House of Prayer seminary is also under attack. According the church students and staff at the faculty are encouraged to close themselves from all worldly influences in order to achieve spiritual growth. Critics say that by denying the students and staff the ability to own possessions or earn an income the church is simply making sure that those unfortunate people can be manipulated at will.

The enemies of the House of Prayer do not limit their attacks to online criticism. Several attempts have been made to lay charges or to at least convince the authorities to investigate the church, its finances and its doctrine. However, the authorities maintain that they cannot launch any investigation without proof that laws are broken. Voluntary membership of the church is certainly not a crime.

Despite the sustained attack aimed at it, the Hope of Prayer church has remained quiet. They refuse to enter into public debate and they do not react to public criticisms. The church maintains that it is a spiritual home for its members. Members are encouraged to pray as often as possible and to grow as individuals.
